Pottawattamie County Conservation has a full day of programming planned for Saturday, October 13th. There is something for everyone and with events happening at 3 of our parks you are sure to find the perfect event for your Saturday!

All Hallows Eve – Botna Bend Park
October 12th, 6:00 p.m.

This fun family event actually kicks off the evening before, on Friday, October 12th and continues with a full day of fun on Saturday the 13th. Check out this schedule of events!

Any campers who want to participate in the campground trick or treat are asked to provide their own candy for the event. This event is free with park admission, open to participants of all ages and requires no pre-registration. Any questions, call 712-741-5465.

A Pottawattamie County Almanac – Hitchcock Nature Center
October 13th, 8:00 a.m. to Noon

This adult education opportunity is new for 2018 & is patterned on Aldo Leopold’s classic work of literature “A Sand County Almanac”. Program participants are encouraged to deepen their appreciation of the natural world through a variety of guided activities including nature journaling, sketching, invasive species studies, hands on studies, guided hikes, demonstrations, & lectures. Each month is a different activity and is perfect for everyone from the novice naturalist to the experienced outdoors-man. 
This program is presented as part of our adult education so we ask that participants be age 15 & over. This program is $15.00 and includes park admission. Pre-registration is required and you can do that online in minutes by clicking right here!

2018 Speaker Series: The Literary Prairie, Hitchcock Nature Center
October 13th, 4:00 p.m.

Join Dr. John Price, Professor & Director of the English Department’s Creative Nonfiction Writing Program at the University of Nebraska Omaha for our final speaker of the 2018 season as he presents on the various literary depictions of the iconic tall grass prairie in literature. The prairie has long since captivated the mind of writers around the world, what is it about these unique open spaces that makes them such a romantic place to the writers mind? 
Our speaker series events are designed for participants ages 14 & over and are free with park admission. Following each speaker is a reception featuring tasty treats with the opportunity to meet one-on-one with our speaker. Book signings, Q&A sessions, & refreshments are always a great way to spend a Saturday. Natural Connections, Arrowhead Park
October 13th, 3:00 to 4:00 p.m.

Time spent outdoors is shown to improve the health, well-being, & quality of life for all people. But, sometimes, finding opportunities and materials to get outdoors can be a challenge for the modern family. Join us at Arrowhead Park for expert guidance and fun activities including a story walk all designed to make getting outdoors easy and fun for everyone! We will even have cold weather gear available for families that are interested to help make winter fun easier. 
This event is free with park admission & is open to all families. We do have some materials to prepare so we are asking that families register in advance so we can be appropriately ready for everyone. Chili Fest, Arrowhead Park
October 13th, 4:00 to 8:00 p.m.

This annual event is a favorite in Pottawattamie County so come be a part of tradition! With games, activities, pumpkin decorating, hayrack rides, trick or treating, & of course … Chili … this event is sure to appeal to every member of your family! 
This event is free with park admission & no pre-registration is needed! Just pay at the gate and meet us at Breezy Lodge for a fun fall evening at the park!
 
As you can see, there is something for everyone, from family programming to adult education we really have packed the calendar for the 13th. With the exception of our Pottawattamie County Almanac program all of these events are free with park admission. For these events attendees must purchase a $3.00 per vehicle daily entrance pass or have a membership to the Pottawattamie Conservation Foundation to attend these programs. Daily entrance passes may be purchased at the front gate with exact change or check and may be purchased the day of the event. Pottawattamie Conservation Foundation memberships may be purchased for $20.00 from staff at any of our parks or at the Loess Hills Lodge at Hitchcock Nature Center during regular business hours. Memberships may also be purchased in advance online at www.pottawattamieconservationfoundation.com.
There is no additional fee to attend these programs, free will donations are encouraged and will support continued programming opportunities in Pottawattamie County.
