Then the Pottawattamie County Conservation Board (PCCB) is looking for you! Our Environmental Education Department is looking for current or former teachers interested in staying active in childhood education by assisting our naturalists with field trip programming this spring as a day-hire employee!
The day-hire position is a paid position with daytime hours, typically in the morning, with an average time commitment of 3 to 5 hours per program. This position offers a flexible schedule with day-hire employees committing to available shifts as their schedule allows. This position is based out of Hitchcock Nature Center in Honey Creek, Iowa & is perfect for the educator with an interest in the great outdoors.
Interested parties would be trained by EE staff to teach programs, and once trained, would often independently lead a group of students. Programs can occur indoors and outdoors in a variety of settings and conditions, and may involve leading hikes in search of insects or game trails, climbing the observation tower to spot raptors with binoculars, or teaching the importance of thinking and acting “green.” Willingness to head outdoors & maybe get a little dirty is a necessity!
We do have immediate openings available for new day hires to assist with the remainder of our 2019 spring field trip season so availability in May is a big plus. To be considered for the day-hire position, applicants must pass the pre-employment drug test and background check.
