Field Trips - On-site learning and exploration of the natural world at any of the county parks

On-site presentations offered to Pottawattamie County and surrounding-area schools and community groups at any of the Pottawattamie County Parks.

"It's so nice to have a field trip that is worry-free and gives the students great new opportunities."
- Lewis & Clark Kindergarten Teacher

Unearth insects crawling beneath fallen logs and sedentary rocks; listen for timber beetles gnawing through bark and discover the hearts of trees; look for clues of animal life and signs of seasonal change as you explore a nature trail brimming with woodland trees and the changing faces of wildflowers; scan the skies in search of migrating raptors and chirping songbirds flitting between branches and brush.

These are the adventures waiting on a nature field trip at any of the Pottawattamie County Parks, where students can learn about the natural world by directly experiencing and exploring it. These on-site programs provide hands-on nature learning in an outdoor setting. Field trip stations are designed to facilitate outdoor exploration and connection with nature, and can be tailored to fit classroom needs, size, and curriculum. Typical field trips consist of four stations—including at least two guided nature hikes that encourage investigation and discovery through inquiry process-based methods.

Current field trip rates include a program and individual fee. A minimum of 10 participants is required for all field trips. There is no minimum for the number of programs that may be presented.
