Public Programs - Annual programs offered for visitors of all ages to experience and enjoy

On-site presentations regarding local natural communities and resources that encourage visitors of all ages to connect with the natural world. We believe that one's relationship to place is as important as place itself. And that is why we strive to meet our educational mission of connecting people to nature.

Have you ever watched the wings of a falcon unfold and sweep through the air or witnessed the miracle of migration as it flies past your eyes? Have you ever tasted fresh and spitting sap from the skin of maple trees or tagged a monarch as it passes by on its way to Mexico?

These are just a few of the wonders that nature has to offer. Full of flux, constantly changing, cycling and growing, there is always something new to discover within the natural world. With year-round environmental education public programming, visitors of all ages are invited to experience and enjoy these seasonal wonders and discover something new.

Whether hiking through the globally significant Loess Hills identifying prairie ecology, listening for the elusive creatures of the night, or simply enjoying a summer day of fishing and family, Pottawattamie County Conservation offers a variety of environmental education programs designed to help visitors connect with nature and develop a more complete understanding of our local environment, the communities within it, and the inhabitants of those communities. In these lessons we hope to facilitate a deeper appreciation for these communities and the natural world that will foster positive attitudes and actions toward the environment.
